Pelvic Floor Assessment
On-site imaging of the anal sphincters is performed using a state-of-the-art 3D endoanal ultrasound machine. Patients can be referred for a specialist colorectal assessment of pelvic floor dysfunction and fecal incontinence. A global assessment will be performed consisting of expert clinical examination in conjunction with investigations such as a defecating proctogram, anal manometry and endoanal ultrasound. No bowel preparation is necessary.
The ultrasound scans are performed by Esther Menzi, a colorectal nurse specialist who is highly experienced, having worked for over 10 years with the Auckland City Hospital Colorectal Unit. Esther is a registered nurse with a special interest in the support and management of patients with defecatory problems, fecal incontinence and constipation.
She is fully trained in anal manometry and is certified for endo-anal ultrasound. In addition, Esther is a nurse specialist in sacral nerve stimulation for fecal incontinence. She currently works with ACCL as well as at the Auckland City Hospital general surgical department as a research nurse.
